The 2024 OHSU Innovation Awards

Congratulations to the 2024 OHSU Innovation Awardees Alex Bartlett, Ph.D., Robert Eil, M.D., Michael Riscoe, Ph.D., Joaquin Cigarroa, M.D., Matthias Merkel, M.D., Ph.D., and Joe Ness, M.H.A., RPh.  These awards recognize innovative scientists in the OHSU community striving to turn scientific ideas into healthcare solutions to improve patient lives. David Huang receiving a medal from President Biden

President Biden honors OHSU's David Huang

Congratulations to David Huang, M.D., Ph.D., on receiving the United States' highest honor for technological achievement, the National Medal of Technology and Innovation!

“You’re literally changing the world for the better,” President Biden told Huang and other honorees.  Huang was a co-inventor of optical coherence tomography, or OCT, which has transformed the way eye disease is diagnosed and managed.

Promoting Inventor Equity in Patenting

Join us on April 17th for the OHSU Innovates Speaker Series, where we will delve into promoting equity and inclusivity in patent inventorship. 

Intellectual property lawyer Stephen Sullivan, J.D., of Schwabe, Williamson and Wyatt will lead the discussion, joined by OHSU members Carmem Pfeifer, D.D.S., Ph.D., and Ruchi Thanawala, M.D., M.S. , to discuss the barriers to inclusive inventorship and strategies to foster more equity in patenting.

Request for Applications

The Oregon Clinical & Translational Research Institute (OCTRI) in partnership with OHSU Innovates, is accepting applications for the Biomedical Innovation Program (BIP) Drug Discovery track.

Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis, with budgets not to exceed $60,000. Additionally, each awardee will be assigned a project manager and a mentor to advise and help accelerate their project towards commercialization. Projects will typically be supported for a 12-month period; predetermined milestones and quantitative metrics of success will be evaluated on a regular basis.
