Current Clinical Trials in Pregnancy and Infertility

Chronic Hypertension and Pregnancy
This study is being done to evaluate what the best, and safest treatment for mild chronic hypertension during pregnancy is for both mother and baby. PI: Leonardo Pereira, MD, MCR eIRB #17011

Functional Imaging of the Human Placenta by MRI
The purpose of this study is to use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure blood flow to the placenta during pregnancy. Maternal blood carries the oxygen and nutrients that the baby needs to grow and develop. This blood goes to the placenta which controls the exchange of nutrients to the baby and removal of waste products from the baby. The ability to look at blood flow whilst a baby is still in the womb will help obstetricians to find women who have poor blood flow (known as placental insufficiency) during pregnancy. Finding these potential problems during pregnancy, rather than delivery, may allow medical staff to intervene and give the best possible outcome for the baby. eIRB #15196, PI: Antonio Frias, MD

Lidocaine Patch for Post-Operative Cesarean Care
The purpose of this study is to determine if lidocaine patches decrease post-operative pain associated with cesarean births. PI: Catherine Leclair, MD eIRB #16657

Medical Optimization & Management of Pregnancies with overt Type 2 Diabetes (MOMPOD)
The purpose of this study is to learn about the safety and effectiveness of the study drug metformin when added to insulin treatment to help treat type 2 and early diagnosed diabetes in pregnancy. The study is trying to find out if metformin can be used safely in pregnancy to improve diabetes care and reduce problems at birth. PI: Amy Valent, DO eIRB #18438

Oxytocin Receptor DNA Methylation and Postpartum Maternal Outcomes
In this study we are tying to learn if genetics plays a role in why some women have too much bleeding after birth. We are also interested in knowing more about how women's physical and mental recovery goes in the first year after birth whether or not they have had too much bleeding and how it related to their genetics as well. PI: Elise Erickson, PhD, CNM eIRB #18841

Placenta Repository: A Study of Placental Function in Healthy and Pathological Pregnancies
Our long term goal is to identify pregnancies that are at risk of poor outcomes and to develop methods for prevention and treatment. eIRB # 16328; PI: Leonardo Pereira, MD

Prenatal Environment And Child Health (PEACH) Study
OHSU researchers are conducting a study that looks at how maternal diet and metabolic state during pregnancy might affect child brain development and behavior. You can help us by participating in our research. PI: Elinor Sullivan, PhD and Joel Nigg, PhD eIRB #18579

Randomized Trial of Magnesium Sulfate Dosing in Preeclampsia
The purpose of the study is to determine if an alternate magnesium sulfate dosing regiment in preeclamptic pregnant women with BMI > 35kg/m2 will result in a larger proportion of obese women who have therapeutic serum magnesium levels (>4.8 mg/dl) for seizure prophylaxis after 4 hours of administration and at the time of delivery. Kathleen Brookfield, MD, PhD eIRB #15809

Roo Study on Mom and Baby Well-Being
We are looking for pregnant women who have experienced difficulties with low mood, anxiety or high stress levels. We hope to learn if mindfulness groups can promote well-being and self-care during pregnancy and support infant brain development. PI: Alice Graham, PhD eIRB #19166
